IMPORTANT INFORMATION
-
Do you do meat boxes or subscriptions? We do! We prefer to sell meat boxes. Our meat boxes change depending on availability but we always offer an all beef box, all pork, or a mixed box! You can also order our meat boxes online through the WFM2Go program. Otherwise, call, email or send us a message on our socials and we'll hook you up with the latest meat box list.
-
How much freezer space is required for a 1/2 cow?A half of beef typically needs about 8-10 cubic feet. The rule of thumb is one cubic foot of freezer space for every 35-40 pounds of packaged meat.
-
Is there a deposit required for whole/half animal purchases?Yes! There is a non-refundable deposit required for all whole/half and quarter animal purchases.
-
How much is a 1/2 cow?The end price of the cow is dependent on the hang weight of the cow. We charge $5.25 per lb hang weight!
-
Do you sell 1/4 cows?We do, but we prefer if you have already found a friend to purchase the other 1/4. Sometimes if we only get one person looking for a 1/4 of a cow, it can take longer to process and get your order because we need enough orders to process a whole cow. Therefore, we recommend finding a friend that would be interested in splitting the cost of half a cow with you so that you get a better selection of steaks, roasts, etc.
-
How do I place an order?Send us an email, give us a call, visit us at the market or use the website to contact us and fill out the farm on the "Contact Us" page. We're not quite full-time farmers yet so we will typically reply within 24 hours!
-
Can I pick up my order?Yes! We will confirm a local pick-up time upon confirmation of your order. Please keep in mind that we do not have a storefront and we both still work our 9-5 jobs outside of the farm so typically pick-up times run in the evenings.
-
Are your animals harvested humanely? All of our animals are harvested humanely at local provincial approved butchers. Our butchers are wonderful people and they are professionals!
-
Is your beef dry-aged?Our beef hangs for 14-21 days before being cut, this helps to tenderize the meat and break down the connective tissues.
-
What goes into the grain you feed your animals?Throughout the year, we receive spent grain from Smokehouse Brewery in Berwick, and Millstone Brewing in Sheffield Mills. There is not a lot that the brewers can do with the spent grain so in an effort to upcycle it, they give it to us to feed to our animals! We also feed our animals a mixture of local corn and barley that is grown and mixed locally. It is not certified organic.
-
Is your beef grass fed?The cattle always have access to grass and are primarily grass-fed their entire lives. During the final months before harvest, their grass diet is supplemented with grains to help give the meat flavor and marbling. Our pigs are given grain year-round because grass does not give them enough protein to grow.
